How are microfibre towels odour free?

Did you know that microfibre towels are odour free? Yes that’s right odour free! Let me explain how this happens and why this isn't the case for cotton towels.

When your traditional cotton towel gets wet they usually stay damp for an extended period of time, especially if they are in an environment where the conditions are quite humid or there isn't enough sunlight. This is because cotton towels are made up of thicker fibres which when wet take longer to dry providing the perfect environment for the growth of bacteria. This can lead to the development of unpleasant odours or that damp and musty smell which you may have found in the past when using cotton towels after a shower or even with your gym towels if you accidently leave them in your car or gym bag overnight. 

But for microfibre towels this is different because not only do they dry much more quickly due to the fibres being finer and more densely packed than those in cotton towels. Therefore are less likely to retain moisture which also reduces the risk of bacteria growth.

They are also generally more resistant to the growth of bacteria due to the nature of the synthetic fibres they are made from. Synthetic fibres, such as polyester and polyamide, are less conducive to the growth of microorganisms than natural fibres, such as cotton. This is especially important in a gym setting or when you're in and out of the water, as moisture and bacteria can easily build up on cotton towels leading to that damp and smell.
